Tango Fire
For people who never see "Forever Tango" (Argentinean Tango show first hit broadway in 1997), "Tango Fire" maybe very entertaining. But for tango fans like me and most of my classmate, it was a little disappointed last Friday evening in Kravis Center. The company is very young (dancers and musicians in their 20s-30s instead of 30s-50s). All dances are very fast, very energetic, too loud, too eager to please the audience. I kept expecting one classic till the end, but it never happen. Since, all the movements is so acrobatic with non-stop hi-kicks\spins\lifts , the show was over in a flash of flame (maybe that's how they got the name), but the essence of tango; the music tempo, dark mood and poise were all lost. Traditional Argentine tango (don't confused with ballroom tango) relies heavily on improvisation and connections between dancers, it can only happen in a reasonable pace. Passion supposed to be smolder, not fire, if you want to burn forever.

Make much of little
'Aside from love, few activities seem to promise us as much happiness as going traveling.' Alain De Botton said in his lovely little book; The Art of Travel. We are loaded with advice on where to travel to, but hear little of why and how we should go. The questions are neither simple nor trivial, even most people don't think about it. And the answers will help in the search of happiness.
'The sole cause of man's unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room.' --- Pascal. So, after a few chapters of the anticipation of departure, curiosity as motives, feeling on sublime landscape and make art as a way to possess beauty, Alain talks about idea of 'Journey around bedroom'; a notion that the pleasure we derive from a journey may be dependent more on the mind-set we travel with than on the destination we travel to. If only we could apply a traveling mind-set to our own locales, we might find these places becoming no less interesting than thousand miles away.
"Mirrormask" a super low budget, wired dream like fantasy, blend of live and animation film reminded me just that. Totally amazed with how much the film maker can achieve with how little. On the other hand, how much pleasure I derive from a simple movie. Fat, you will like this one --- off beat dark humor. ;>

Opening night
It was a fun night. A bunch of old friends came by to the see the Octopus. In fact, some didn't see octopus, but other mysterious creature or interesting thought. It's part of the game; once your works or words is out, it's open for interpretation. Did they say it's impossible to see your own eye directly, or think about your own thinking, without a medium ........ I'm glad to have the chance to see through other's eyes and thoughts of my own thoughts. Friends are good happy medium. Anyone interested in seeing some of the pots, click here. Comments are more than welcome.
